Do we have a Code of Ethics?
Yes, they are as follows;
1. We provide the best quality care to any one that seeks our professional help.
2. We accept all clients without discrimination.
3. We acknowledge the confidential nature of the professional relationship with a client and respect each client's right to privacy.
4. We practice only the modalities in which we have been professionally trained and certified.
5. We in no way participate or engage in any type of sexual activities with our client.
6. We maintain a safe, clean and professional environment.
Are there different techniques in massage?
Yes, there are many. Although Swedish massage is the technique known by the majority of massage therapists. You may hear of sports massage, aromatherapy massage, shiatzu, deep tissue massage, Thai massage, or of techniques named for their developers. These include Upledger, Heller Work, and Feldenkrais.
Massage is sometimes defined in terms of intent: it can be for wellness purposes such as stress reduction and sports performance, or it can be for treatment of injuries to the body or psyche. Some psychotherapists, for example, recommend massage to compliment talk therapy for grieving patients. Physicians sometimes prescribe massage after strains, sprains, and even surgery.
Am I going to be in an embarrassing situation - like, naked?
No. You will always be draped with towels. Click here for detailed pictures. You may wear as much clothing as you need to feel at ease. If you ever have a concern, tell your therapist that you are uncomfortable, or to stop if you feel embarrassed about something. Your therapist can work through towels and clothing if required but may be limited to the types of techniques used. Remember, you are the customer, you are the one in control, not the therapist. If you are thinking of trying massage for the first time you may want to consider a Bowen Therapy Treatment.
Talk to your therapist to work out which massage you feel comfortable with.
Does massage hurt?
In the course of a massage, the therapist will probably
find areas of tenderness or pain. The level of pain will depend entirely
on the therapist's techniques. Receiving massage strokes in tender areas
often creates a very satisfying sensation of "good pain."
If, however, a client has to hold their breath, furrow their brow, or
tense their body to endure the pain, they need to ask the therapist
to decrease the pressure or try a different technique. Severe pain triggers
the release of stress hormones into the bloodstream, which is hardly
the goal of massage therapy.
Some massage techniques involve deep pressure that can be very painful, yet they have long-term benefits that may outweigh the short-term discomfort. a professional therapist will always explain the benefits of painful procedures and allow the client to accept or decline such procedures.
How much of my body will be massaged?
The extent of a massage will depend on several factors,
including the length of the session, the specific need for treatment,
the techniques used, and the client's comfort level with touch.
When there is an injury or condition to be addressed, the entire session may focus on a single area. There may also be a need for treatment of other body areas that are affected by an injury, such as when a sprained ankle forces the opposite leg to bear all the stress of walking and weight-bearing.
When a massage is sought for relaxation, it is important for the client and the therapist to discuss and agree upon the areas to be massaged. The term "full body massage" will include the back, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, legs, feet, face, chest (above breasts for women), abdomen and hips.
The genital region will never be undraped or touched by the therapist. If you are uncomfortable with being massaged in other areas, just inform the therapist of your wishes and the therapist will adjust the massage accordingly. We understand that even such public areas as hands or elbows may be emotionally or physically sensitive areas for a given client. No one should ever accept touch that feels "wrong" to them in any way, nor should they feel pressured to offer a detailed explanation for such sensitivity.
Do I have to get undressed to receive massage?
Massage is traditionally applied to bare skin, lubricated
with oil, cream, or lotion. This doesn't mean that the client's modesty
is ever compromised. You will be draped with a large towel/s, carefully
undraping only one area of the body at a time as the need arises. Click

While many clients have no qualms about removing all of their clothing, some prefer to leave on their undergarments, or even some of their outer clothing.
For Reflexology we only work on your feet so there is no need to get undressed, just take off your shoes and socks and sit back and relax.
Talk to your therapist to work out which massage you feel comfortable with.
Can I bring someone along?
Yes. If you feel more comfortable. The person may be present in the room while you are receiving your treatment or may wait outside the room for you. To ensure you get full benefit and relaxation from your treatment, the person present is required to be quite and unobtrusive during your treatment. Children are not permitted on the premises.
Does massage have any basis in scientific research?
Yes. You can perform a Medline literature search via the Internet or at a medical library to retrieve literature on massage therapy's effects in many conditions. Massage has been studied for its use with premature infants, adults who experienced recent heart attack or stroke, ability to increase athletic performance and shorten recuperation time, effects in psychotherapy for sexual abuse patients, grieving patients, and after loss of limbs when phantom pain is experienced.
Massage is currently being studied for its use in family relations and in dealing with the separation often felt when a child becomes a teenager.
What is Remedial Massage?

The term includes, but is not limited to, effleurage (stroking), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (percussion), compression, vibration, friction, nerve strokes, and Swedish gymnastics, either by hand or with mechanical or electrical apparatus for the purpose of body massage.
